Marisol Escudero Martinez is the legal content and strategies coordinator at Ipas LAC. Since joining Ipas five years ago, she has successfully led several initiatives with multi-national and interdisciplinary teams for the advancement of the right to safe abortion in Latin America. In her current role, she collaborates with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community groups. Throughout her career, she has work with legislators and health authorities in the design of gender sensitive national laws and regulatory frameworks to improve access and provision of sexual and reproductive services; wrote communications to report the state of women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in LAC countries before the United Nations bodies and special procedures and has provided advice and wrote amicus briefs (a legal document supplied by a third party not directly involved in the case containing expert information or advice) in litigation cases against harmful laws that restrict access to abortion and reproductive rights. Before joining Ipas, Escudero Martinez worked as a policy consultant in Geneva and London. She holds a bachelor´s degree in law from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México and a joint master of science on health policy, planning and financing from the London School of Economics and Political Science and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
