Montaz is one of the hundreds of thousands of Rohingya who have fled Myanmar to Bangladesh in recent months. Soon after she, her husband and three children arrived at the refugee camps in Bangladesh, she realized she was pregnant. On the advice of a neighbor in the camp, her husband bought medicine from a local pharmacy. Montaz took the medicine to end her pregnancy, but it didn’t work, and she became so weak with pain that she was unable to care for her children.
Fortunately, Montaz was able to receive treatment for her complications from Ipas-trained health workers at a maternal health center near Kutupalong refugee camp.
Read more about the critical need for reproductive care in the camps and how Ipas is helping.
