“I do this because it is satisfying. I don’t want to see mothers and children die,” says Ranju Sapkota, a Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV) in rural Kavre District.
The expansion of safe abortion care across Nepal is one of several strategies that helped Nepal nearly halve its maternal mortality ratio in the last decade. In a country with nearly 28 million people and extremely rugged terrain in many areas, providing health care—including safe abortion care—to all citizens is challenging. Ipas’s work with FCHVs has helped bring care and information to women in the communities where they live. Your donation could help Ipas train more FCHVs to reach women in Nepal with lifesaving information and referrals to safe abortion services.
