Floating clinic spreads word on abortion pill

TORONTO - Dutch physician Rebecca Gomperts, revered and reviled as “the abortion boat doctor,” has sailed to Ireland, Poland and Portugal to provide offshore medical abortions.

Yesterday, the founder of Women on Waves came to Canada.

She’s attending today’s symposium at the University of Toronto marking the 20th anniversary of the overturning of abortion laws in this country.

“It was a landmark decision, the right to privacy and autonomy for women,” she says, speaking by phone from Amsterdam.
